Dunblane Medical Practice
“We have nine doctors and two part time secretaries so being able to view and plan workload is essential to ensure we get things done on time”
Sue Lawson, Practice Manager.
Dunblane Medical Practice chose Lexacom as its digital dictation provider on the basis of a combination of competitive pricing and good customer service.
Dunblane Practice Manager, Sue Lawson, contacted Lexacom after seeing the company’s advert in First Practice Management. The practice’s existing tape-based system wasn’t working well and it was time for a change
Sue Lawson, recalls the difficulties they were having: “Using tapes used to encourage bad habits. Doctors would wait and record all their letters and actions in one hit to fill up a tape. Our secretaries would end up with an unexpected deluge of work, with no way of knowing whether the tape contained urgent referrals or how long the dictations were.”
Although Dunblane Medical Practice did consider other digital software providers, it chose Lexacom thanks to a combination of competitive pricing and good customer service.
The software has made a big difference to the practice and its patients. Doctors are now dictating continuously which gives the secretaries a regular flow of work. Dictations are marked with level of urgency and length so workload can be managed more effectively, and urgent documents are prioritised and often sent out the same day. Old dictations can be retrieved easily if needed and the practice no longer has to spend money replacing worn out tapes.
Sue is delighted with the new system: “We have nine doctors and two part time secretaries so being able to view and plan workload is essential to ensure we get things done on time. The doctors and secretaries enjoy using the system and, most importantly, we’ve been able to improve our service to patients as a result.”
