When Barrington Medical Centre started using Lexacom 3, they discovered the benefits of using digital dictation software for their document creation.
Up until recently, Barrington Medical Centre had what they describe as somewhat of a ‘cumbersome’ method of dictating their clinical notes and referrals. The use of analogue tapes to record dictations by their GPs, ready for the Secretarial team to then transcribe and distribute was starting to become harder work than it should have been.
Barrington Medical Centre had previously trailed Lexacom 3 digital dictation software and decided it was time to re-visit the idea of changing to it. Kieran Glancy explains why:
“Using the tape system was delivering poor sound quality and the cost of replacing ageing equipment was increasing. In busy times we were unable to prioritise between 2 week wait letters and routine dictations. We knew it was time to change”.
Since using Lexacom 3 digital dictation, Barrington Medical Centre are managing and processing all their clinical dictations much more efficiently. Patient safety is enhanced and the accuracy of the content in documents they are creating has improved.

The practice has six GPs and two Medical Secretaries. On a typical day there will be at least three GPs dictating correspondence ready for completion by either of the Medical Secretaries. Kieran added:
“It can be really busy behind the scenes at our Practice. Lexacom 3 has most certainly improved efficiency, accuracy and speed. The Olympus recording mics which we use with the software are easy to use and the clarity of the recordings is good. Staff morale has also improved as a result of the more modern process”.

It’s also good to know we have the ability to use the other Lexacom products if we ever need them.”
