What are Roles?

Roles are a collection of permissions that control a user’s access to services and their functions.

Permissions (in this context) are discrete levels of access to functions within Lexacom and Echo. Access to use different functions or perform different tasks is gated to a user having a specific permission.

Instead of setting a user’s permissions directly, permissions are grouped into Roles to make it easy to control what sort of experience a user has.

Some roles (like Author, Typist, or Echo) contain all the permissions necessary to use Lexacom or Echo as a user of that type. Some roles (like Uncomplete Jobs) grant access to a single function.

Users can be a member of multiple roles. They will have access to all the functions that the sum of their roles allows.

If a user is a member of multiple teams, their roles in one team should not affect their access in another team – their permissions in each team are independent.
