Portree Medical Centre’s decision to change their end-to-end document creation system delivered more positive results than they ever imagined.
The Portree Medical Centre, based in the Isle of Skye, decided that it was time to upgrade from a traditional analogue dictation tape system to a digital working method. The timings for a change in their workflow systems were ideal for Portree Medical Centre as it coincided with the review of their working efficiencies within the Administration team.
Melanie Newman, Deputy Practice Manager at Portree, was involved with choosing a new digital dictation service when they came across Lexacom for the first time. “We wanted to move with the times using a system that would create efficiencies for our working methods. After being introduced to Lexacom 3, we decided to take a month’s trial as the potential benefits it could offer us were evident from the demo.

Since using Lexacom 3, Portree Medical Centre haven’t looked back. The advanced digital dictation software is used by their eight GPs, one Registrar GP and one full-time Secretary, as well as a relief Secretary who covers the workload during times of annual leave.

GPs can access Lexacom at the touch of a button, ready to dictate a referral letter and any other vital documents immediately after a patient appointment. This process creates a more efficient process for them, especially whilst the vital information is still fresh in their minds.
Lexacom 3 allows the administration team to access dictations instantly, transcribing accurate document, ready to be posted or emailed out. The team use Lexacom Type to manage and prioritise their workload to ensure a more efficient turnaround time on work that needs completing.

Our GPs can manage their time more efficiently, our Secretaries rarely have any kind of ‘backlog’ with their typing and for me, the admin tool allows me to manage and monitor our workloads while we keep our patient’s safety at the forefront of our minds, ensuring their needs are met by responding promptly to get referrals into the healthcare system without delay,” Melanie Newman.
