What are patient, medical, and coding modes?

Patient mode

Echo will automatically insert descriptive terminology next to medical terms to help inform patients reviewing their notes via Citizen Access. Comprehension Engine® can be applied to live speech recognition or existing text, to transcribe a description in brackets next to the medical terminology.

Medical mode

Echo will automatically convert spoken phrases or existing text into medical shorthand or abbreviations. It will also expand text to cover standard medical exams. For example, saying “chest exam normal” will type the full details of a standard chest examination.

Coding mode

When you’re in coding mode, subjective and objective codes are added automatically in SystmOne as you speak.
Diagnostic and chronic disease monitoring codes are manually triggered by saying “SNOMED…” followed by the condition.

To find out more about using these modes, visit the Comprehension Engine® section of the Echo Support Centre for videos and guides.
